Christmas Grand Slam

Got to fish with a new toy that Santa stop by the shop for me. A trustee little 802-4 superfine touch and a new Hardy Ultralight 2000 CC. I recently decided to retire my existing 2wt combo 7'9" 2wt superfine  and my Hardy Feather weight. For a little rod it certainly has some big shoes to fill. The new superfine series from Orvis has taken the past and merged it with the future, the new rod maintain the touch and feel of the original superfine rods but with new strength added that makes the new rods way more powerful. Hardy has made a huge step into the 21 century with the Ultralight reels, which has  a smooth click and pawl drag that is so sensitive that 4 inch native brownies were pulling drag. Both the rod and reel have made a tremendous impact in an era of rods that are advertised as fast faster and fastest. I would be hard pressed to say that Orvis and Hardy will always make exceptional Fly Fishing Equipment and always will. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years and maybe i will se you on the run..

Valley Creek Dry Flies Late November

Could not resist the weather was perfect. Two weeks ago I hit Valley Creek and had a pretty good day with some Little BWO I decided to try my luck again. The sun poked out and the olives were out and the trout were on them. I had my old school outfit out today a trustee 7'9" 2wt  Superfine and my lucky Hardy Flyweight. The fish were actively feeding and for about an hour they were really rising and very entertaining. I managed to go 4 out of 6 in that hour and felt pretty good about the Day. Valley Creek is a true gem but is getting way to much pressure. I know that everyone wants to catch Native trout but these fish are very sensitive to external pressure. The fishing on Valley Creek is on a rebound but will only remain that way if were talk good care of this creek and its fish. What a great day on Valley and hopefully there will be many more. Please keep in mind that these fish are a gift and should be treated that way. Be careful with your catch and were you step. I will see you next year and hopefully I will meet you on the run.

End of another Good season !!

Probably the last post for the year since it is starting to get cold and fishing is heading to winter conditions fast. Hit the Salmon River several times this fall with my intentions to perfect the whole two handed transition. The first two trips to the Salmon River were completely unrealistic with the Salmon coming in waves and water conditions being bordering drought like. After breaking a rod and a few 20 and 30 pounder I really started to focus on Steelhead. The third trip up to the Salmon River was all about steelhead. I headed up to fish with a few guys from the shop and for three days we pounded the river. The fishing was tough due to the water conditions but was everyone having hookups and some really nice fish being landed. Strange season this year up there with some reports of people killing it and some people struggling with even a hook up. My final trip up was a solo mission sometimes I seem to work better alone on the river. Three more days of walking the banks looking for fish. With water conditions still being low the fish were taking shelter in transition water and in deep pools. Went 2 for 3 on day 2 with a nice hen coming to hand and one fish taking me clear into my backing. My last day on the river was a long and cold day with snow and cold temps throughout the day. I still managed one super fresh steelie that looked like a bolt of light and went ariel three times. Great season this year and looking forward to doing some winter fishing in 2013. Have a great time out on the river and maybe i will see you on the run

Little Lehigh Labor Day Weekend

Hit the Little Lehigh to check on the fishing conditions and to catch a few trout. The tricos made an appearance seem to be a little later now due to the cooler night and the shorter days. Fish are not staging for them but still actively eating the spinners. Had a great day fishing sow bugs and wound up with a few nice fish. Looking forward to the cooler temps and recent rain to help get the fish active. Good all around trip as usual cant wait to go back. Still see people wading in the Heritage stretch, which really hurting more then it is helping. The State needs to re-evaluate this ruling. Less fish in this stretch now compared to just a few years ago. Instead of wading in this stretch try a different section of the creek, the fish have all moved to safer places now and most likely if you are having trouble catching fish here you should take a few lessons or go with a guide. Wading in this stretch just proves that you should take a few on stream lessons on how to fish high pressured water. Enough said I had a great day and will continue to as long as there are fish in this creek. Have a great Labor Day and maybe I will see you on the run!!

Thanks to Bart at the DRC for coming up clutch with a room. Fall was in the air and steelheading is righ around the corner. See you on the run

White river and Reno international dealer show

Just back from almost two weeks on the road, had a chance to head down south and fish the White River and spent a few days in Reno NV at the dealer trade show. Fishing was good on the White with monster browns and plenty rainbows. Boated about 30 fish during our morning drift down the White on 0 generation. Night fishing was awesome with a few 24-25 inch brownies being caught. Looking forward to heading back in the early spring with the store trip to the White River. Reno was fun good to see all of the new tackle coming out and to see old friends. Gonna bring a few new lines into the shop including Echo and Airflo. Also looking forward to carrying Nautilus Reels. Good time at the Truckee river with Patagonia footing the bill for a meet and greet. Met the characters from the movie Metalhead: Jay and Owen. Glad to be home looking forward to steelhead and the West Branch.
See you on the run !!

Little Lehigh revisited

Hit the Little Lehigh solo today for the first time in a while and the fishing was a blast. The tricos are in full swing now with fish looking for them and hitting trikes on top and under indicators flies. Had several big fish on dries today and a few more on sunken trikes. All around good day. Still cant the fact that people need to wade in the Little Lehigh if you just realized that you are adding to difficulty that already exist. Some people will never figure this spot out. Have a great day and maybe i will see you on the run

More Trico's on the Little Lehigh and the Tully

This past week it was hot but the fishing was even hotter. Back to my local trike spots brought many more fish to the net. Looking forward to some cooler air temps to let the fish have a break from the heat. Most streams are in bad shape with water levels dropping and water temps rising. But right before the recent blast of tropical heat the trike fishing was fantastic. Hit the streams with a few new comers to the trike seen and the results were many happy fisherman. The warm temps have put a lull in the action but it should pick back up. Hit Valley Creek on July 4th and had a blast. Great place to spend our great nations birthday.
Have a great day stay cool and maybe I will see you n the run..

Little Lehigh 6/26 Tully 6/25

Hit the Little Lehigh again today to check in on the trike situation. Same thing as the week before tikes in the air all morning but nothing until the spinner fall. Also hit the Tully the day before. Both creek are in great shape as far as water, but the bugs are not cooperating once again. Had several real nice fish on sunkin trikes on both creeks, great reward but still no surface activity. Sinking them is the way to go for now next week hopefully the fish will start keying ing on them. Out tomorrow for another adventure hitting  a local smallmouth creek. Have a great day and maybe ill see you on the run

Little Lehigh 6/15

Hit the Little Lehigh today and had a really good day on the water. Once again i got a late start and would up  get there way later then i wanted but still manage to have a 15 fish day with 2 fish being in the 18inch range. No dry fly action for most of the day with a majority of fish being caught down on the bottom. The trico's spinners were still in the air when we arriver but never came down, should be much longer for them to start falling. Big Fish day today good day with a late night native brownie falling for a caddis in the fast water. Have a happy Father's day all and maybe i will see you on the run!!!
