Cumberland Valley trip

Had a group of guys out in Carlisle fishing the Breeches and Big Springs last week end and had a great time with the good fisherman from the Sporting Gentleman. Had to chance to guide this group with the honorable Tom Baltz. The fishing in the Cumberland Valley always seems to be more challenging then it seems to be, its either the crowds of fisherman that make thing difficult or just the stubborn fish that make it that way. Big Springs is were i started a day before everyone else showed up and i was pleased to see that Big Springs was progressively getting better. I fished for a few hours and managed a couple or stream bred rainbows and one monster that broke me off. After Big Springs i needed to head over to Allenberry to meet  up with our guest. So I headed right to the run for a quick line wetting and ws rewarded with a decent Brownie that feel for Sulphur nymph. Then it was off to dinner with our guest and out for the evening spinner fall down below Allenberry. The sulphurs spinners were present and a few nice fish were taken before it was to dark to fish. Saturday started out with me and two guest heading over to the Letort and decided to try Big Springs instead. Big Springs looked great with the sun not quite on top and fish rising to BWO and midges. A few fish out of the ditch and right below the second parking lot and we were finished and on our way back to the Breeches. After lunch we stared at the run a worked our way back down to Allenberry with several nice fish coming to the net with a chunky brown being the big fish. The evening hatches were not a cooperative on saturday with the Breeches sticking up to its hard to catch fish even though you can see then rising. Sunday consisted of taking a group of 5 to Big Spring to give a shot and let our guest have a chance at the Native trout in Big Spring. All in all everyone of our guest caught a few fish, a few guys got trout on Big Spring which is an accomplishment in itself and a couple guys got there biggest fish on the fly. Great trip thanks to Tom Baltz who hosted our trip for the Sporting Gentleman and thanks to all of the guys that came along to fish the Limestone Streams of the Cumberland Valley. Thanks again and may i will see you in the run!!!

Spring means Central PA and its time to start thinking of mayflies and midges. Taking a few trips out to the Cumberland Valley this spring, with a private stream on the menu and a trip to historical limestone streams of carlisle. The fishing season started out with early season action and the hatch way a head of schedule. This private stretch of water was the first of my scheduled adventures and for the first time this spring started out with rain falling and slowing the dry fly action down to a minimum. Never falls though streamers and high sticking prevailed and rainy morning turned into a double digit day for my guest. Some fantastic size to all of the fish caught and well worth the early morning rain. The next trip schedule will be to Carlisle's historic fisheries and i cant wait to get on the run....

Have a great day!!
